DIY Laundry Detergent

    What you'll Need:

  • Oxi Clean
  • Baking Soda
  • Fels-Naptha
  • Borax
  • Washing Soda

I've seen a lot of recipes for home made laundry detergent and most of them have the base ingredients of Borax, Washing Soda and Fels-Naptha. I decided to add Baking Soda because I use it for everything, and Oxi Clean for fighting stains.
You'll start by using a cheese grater to grate up the Fels-Naptha bar. So it will end up looking a lot like cheese. Here is a visual.
Once you have a full bar grated in your bowl, You can add the rest of the ingredients. I use 2 cups of each item. Tip: Make sure you have a really big bowl. Mix everything together well, and you have your laundry detergent.
I store mine in a mason jar that I antiqued. You can store yours in any air tight container. This recipe makes a lot more than just a mason jar, so I store my backup in a plastic container so its easy to refill my jar when empty.
When using, I usually use about 2 Tbs. at a time. Of course you can use more for soiled loads. Trick: I use the little scoop that comes in the small containers of Oxi Clean.
This is good for your clothes and so much cheaper than liquid detergents. It is also great for anyone that has sensitive skin or is allergic to anything like Tide or All.
Good luck, and if you've tried this let me know how it went!

  1. I'm having a hard time finding the baking soda washing powder. But I can't wait to make this otherwise!! Thanks for Tue recipe.

  2. I found everything in the same aisle at Wal-Mart. In the Laundry section with the stain removers. At my Wal-Mart it was all on the bottom shelf. Good Luck!!!!! :)

  3. After hitting 4 different stores in my area I found it today at store #5!! I can't wait to make this!
