Funfetti Gooey Bar Fail

Looks amazing right, Right! This is one of those mouthwatering pins straight from Pinterest. This was actually a request from my sister for me to do. I thought, well easy enough, I'll just follow directions and make it happen. If it were only that easy! Lets walk through the steps and see where it went wrong.

What you'll Need:

  • 1 Box Yellow Cake Mix
  • 1 Egg
  • 1 Stick Butter, Softened
  • 2/3 Cup Sprinkles, Divided
  • 1/2 Cup (from a 14oz. can) Sweetened Condensed Milk
  • 1 Cup White Chocolate Chips

Preheat oven to 350 and line a 9x9 pan with foil.
Mix cake mix, melted butter and one egg to form a dough.
Add 1/3 cup sprinkles.
Press 2/3 of the dough to the bottom of the prepared pan.
Sprinkle with white chocolate chips and remaining 1/3 cup sprinkles.
Separate remaining dough into small balls and evenly space over top of the bars. Press firmly.
Bake about 30 minutes or until tops are golden brown. Let cool completely or it will be too gooey to cut.

Alright, Easy enough! So lets review. .

I formed my dough, and pressed in the bottom of my pan. Although I didn't have a 9x9, I think that part was okay. So far so good.

I sprinkled my white chocolate chips. Still on track..

I poured my condensed milk. Ah hah, so I actually just realized while posting this that I used an entire can of condensed milk, because the directions were misleading by putting (from a 14 oz can) in there. Had they just put 1/2 cup, I would have just measured out a half of cup. So, too much condensed milk = Mistake #1.

I rolled the rest of the dough into small balls, which looks like I didn't have enough left over. How are you supposed to really measure 2/3 of the dough though, I mean, besides eyeballing it. Tried to press firmly, but with all the extra condensed milk, it was just too gooey. I think by this point I could safely call this a FAIL.

I baked anyways and. . . . PINTEREST FAIL!

So, moral of the story, read the full directions and measurements! I will be trying these again, and when I get them right I will repost a Victory picture. If you try this recipe and nail it, let me know!
